1 dead, 300 homes lost in Zamboanga City fire


ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 31-year-old man died while two others were injured in a fire that gutted 300 houses in Sitio Asinan, Barangay Kasanyangan here on Saturday night, July 8.

The victim was identified as Bennajar Ismael Anding, 31, who died of electrocution.

The two injured sustained burns in their bodies.

The Bureau of Fire Protection and the city government of Zamboanga have mobilized their resources to respond to the fire which started at 8:15 p.m. and declared fire out at 11:03 p.m.

The fire allegedly started in the house of a certain Jane Halil where a wedding was being celebrated.

Arson investigators attributed the fire to faulty electrical wiring. Investigation about the fire is ongoing.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office is profiling affected residents and have distributed initial food assistance to them.

Some victims were evacuated to the Kasanyangan Barangay Hall and others proceeded to their relatives.

More than a year ago on Feb. 20, 2022, a fire struck the area which affected 300 residents.
