Letargo said some 500 to 600 employees of the municipal government are on a priority list to acquire low-cost housing units set to be built through a partnership between the local government unit (LGU) and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
Letargo said priority is municipal employees who do not own homes yet.
“We will be constructing an initial 500 to 600 units and shall be awarding them to our own municipal employees who, up to now, are still without their own house and still renting,” Letargo said.
He added that they are preparing the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Gumaca LGU and the DHSUD for the implementation of the housing project in a one-hectare land in Barangay Panikihan.
The MOA will be signed in the coming weeks after the Sangguniang Bayan (municipal council) grants him the authority to enter into the agreement through a resolution and groundbreaking will follow soon after.
Letargo described the units in the project. "Each unit has a total area of 24 square meters in a mid-rise four-story condominium-style community, with complete amenities,” Letargo added.
He said each beneficiary will pay through Pag-IBIG Fund a monthly amortization of P2,300 for every unit they acquire.
Housing units left after all interested LGU employees have availed shall be offered to other government employees, including teachers and police personnel.
We are now waiting for the DHSUD-assigned contractor to be endorsed at the Sangguniang Bayan (SB), as a matter of protocol. The SB members will just check the contractor's previous projects, Letargo said.
