"First day of @herelieslovebway rehearsals! The first ALL-FILIPINO company on Broadway! What a way to kick off #AAPIHeritageMonth2023!!! (Philippines flag emoji)."
This is what thespian Lea Salonga wrote on Facebook as she uploaded a photo of her with other cast members of "Here Lies Love."
She also shared a screenshot of an article with the title: "Here Lies Love Announce Broadway's First All-Filipino Cast" as published on the website of the American monthly magazine Playbill.
Lea proudly reiterated: "History has been made! @herelieslovebway #aapiheritagemonth2023 #aapiheritagemonth."
Early this year, organizers of "Here Lies Love" announced on Instagram that Lea will be joining them for a limited guest engagement this summer, as well as having her join the production team.
"Lea will play Aurora Aquino from July 11 - August 13. Sign up at the link in bio now to receive information on early access tickets," the text in one of their Instagram posts read.
It was accompanied by a video of Lea talking about her stint on the show.
The Filipino singer-actress admitted how excited she is to be part of it.
"It's very special to me for a few reasons. Number one: As a Filipina artist, I am incredibly excited that audiences will finally get to see - on Broadway - this beautiful, impactful, and important musical," she related.
"Two: I get to go back to the Broadway Theatre, which is where I made my own Broadway debut over thirty years ago, which is wild for me to think about. So it's a really sweet, full-circle moment," Lea continued.
"And three: I get to be reunited on stage with Jose Llana and Conrad Ricamora and I am incredibly excited about that. So, come and see us at 'Here Lies Love,' and I can't wait to see you on the dance floor this summer!"
"Here Lies Love" is billed as a "revolutionary Broadway musical experience" from the minds of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim.
