According to the results of the “Tugon ng Masa” survey by OCTA Research, 80 percent of Filipinos trust the PNP while five percent distrust the police organization. Fifteen percent could not say if they trust the PNP or not.

The survey also found that the approval rating of PNP was at 79 percent while six percent are dissatisfied with its performance. Meanwhile, 15 percent of Filipinos were unsure if they are satisfied or dissatisfied with the performance of the police force.

The non-commissioned survey by the private polling, research, and consultation firm was held from March 24 to 28 involving 1,200 respondents nationwide using face-to-face interviews. It has a margin of error of +/-3 percent.

“The PNP welcome[s] the result of this survey. This is a clear manifestation of the trust and confidence of majority of  the Filipinos to their police. Indeed, the unwavering dedication of each member of the PNP reflects truly in the result of this survey,” said Police Brig Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of PNP public information office.

Maranan noted that the survey was a testament of majority of the people’s appreciation to the sacrifices of the cops “despite some issues hounding the PNP.”

Recently, the PNP was rocked by controversies due to the alleged cover up in the P6.7 billion drug operation in Manila involving an anti-drug operative. This led to a massive internal cleansing operation which prompted the filing of courtesy resignation of 953 police generals and colonels for an evaluation.

“Trust and satisfaction levels vary across regions and socioeconomic classes, but overall, the PNP continues to enjoy public support” Maranan noted.

He said the survey will further motivate and inspire the PNP “to continue to give its best in protecting and serving the Filipino people.”

“We are grateful for the continued trust and satisfaction expressed by most Filipinos. We value the feedback provided by the survey, and it serves as a reminder of our responsibility to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, and integrity,” he stated.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to improving our performance and working towards a safer and more secure Philippines,” he added.
