The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is continuously working to bring back to the Philippines the remains of the Filipina nurse, who was killed after she chose not to abandon her elderly patient during the Oct. 7 mass attack of Hamas gunmen in Israel.
Angelyn Aguirre was among the four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died at the hands of Hamas gunmen during the mass attack that left hundreds of Israeli dead and later sparked the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Angelyn’s heroism was cited by Jerusalem deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan-Nahoum who honored the Filipina nurse in the latter’s post on X, formerly Twitter.
“Angeline was a nurse from the Philippines who was caring for her elderly patient Nira on Kibbutz Kfar Gaza,” said Hassan-Nahoum in her post.
“Despite having a chance to flee the Hamas terror attacks, Angeline showed unbelievable humanity and loyalty by remaining Nira’s side during the violence, resulting in both of them being brutally murdered by Hamas. Unimaginable honor in the face of evil," she added.

DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac also honored Angelyn by citing her love and care to her patient even at the face of death.
He said this is the reason why Filipino caregivers are in demand and loved in Israel and other parts of the world.
“It is not a surprise, time and again our OFWs, in the health and human sector, have proven themselves worthy of their craft. It’s a combination of technical skill and a big heart. That is the brand of the Filipino workers especially in health and human care,” said Cacdac.
“Most of the OFWs in Israel, 99 percent, are caregivers. It’s widespread in Israel to have the caring human touch of the Filipino caregivers,” he added.
Last week, Cacdac met with the parents and husband of Angelyn to convey sympathies and condolences.
