House leader confident PH delegation can address Kuwait labor issue

The chairman of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs is confident that the Philippine delegation sent to Kuwait would be able to address the issue on the oil-rich nation's visa suspension on Filipino workers.

“I am fully convinced that the delegation will diligently pursue the best interests of Filipino workers and swiftly address the labor issues with Kuwait,” said Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo.

The delegation, which arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday, May 16, was composed of officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

“The whole OFW (oversees Filipino workers) community are one with our delegation in our quest for immediate favorable resolution on this matter,” Salo said.

The Filipino delegation includes Assistant Secretary of Middle East and African Affairs Mardomel “Boy” Melicor and Ariel Javier, both of the DFA; Assistant Secretary for Migrant Workers Welfare Services Felicitas Bay and Assistant Secretary for Public Policy and International Cooperation Mario Zinampan, both of the DMW; and OWWA head Arnell Ignacio.

Salo urged the team to be steadfast in their mission and to strive for a fruitful resolution that restores harmonious relations with Kuwait while prioritizing the protection and well-being of our OFWs.
