Bacolod Tay Tung High School wants no let-up against Lyceum Cavite as powerhouse National U-Nazareth School plunges into a much-awaited debut against University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in the second week of the 2023 Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League (GVIL) on Saturday, May 13, at the San Andres Gym in Malate, Manila.

First serve is at 9 a.m. with the Lady Bullpups (0-0) in Pool A eyeing a magnificent start to another title quest versus Perpetual (0-0) in the 16-team GVIL backed by Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Potato Corner, Peri-Peri and R&B Meil Team with the City of Manila as government cooperation partner.

At 10:30 a.m., Emilio Aguinaldo College – Immaculate Conception Academy (0-1) and University of Santo Tomas (0-1) shoot for bounce-back wins in Pool D followed by Bacolod’s 2-0 bid against Lyceum (0-1) in Pool B at 12 p.m.

Kings Montessori College (1-0) likewise seeks a second straight win in Pool B against UAAP runner-up Adamson (0-1) at 2 p.m. with California Academy debuting at 3:30 p.m. against St. Clare Caloocan (0-1) in Pool C.

Far Eastern U-Diliman (1-0) then tests the mettle of Arellano (0-0) in Pool C, at 5 p.m. to cap the loaded six-game bill of Shakey’s GVIL also powered by Mikasa, Team Rebel Sports, Toby’s Sports, Genius Sports and SM Tickets.

NU, the champion in the UAAP juniors, is out to follow up the title run of its big sister in the collegiate edition of the Shakey’s tilt aimed at giving the spotlight to high school aspirants as the country’s Philippine volleyball future.

But the spotlight is also on Bacolod, after anchoring the opening fireworks for provincial squads in pulling off big wins against favored city counterparts highlighted by a 29-27, 25-16 sweep of Adamson, which stood its ground against NU in the recent UAAP juniors finals.

“Parang equal lahat dito sa Shakey’s. Lahat mayroon ka-match so lahat, may tsansa talaga. Ang goal lang namin is to continue exposing our team to this kind of tournament featuring the country’s top high school teams,” said coach Ian Macariola.

All games of Shakey’s GVIL, in partnership with Athletic Events and Sports Management, Inc., (ACES), will be broadcasted live and on-demand through all social media platforms courtesy of Plus Network with CNN Philippines, Solar Sports and Tap Sports as TV partners.
