Magnitude-4.2 earthquake jolts Siargao


BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-4.2 earthquake jolted Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte on Friday afternoon, May 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The earthquake was recorded at 12:34 p.m. and its  epicenter was plotted 41 kilometers (kms) northeast of Burgos town, Surigao del Norte. 

The tremor had a shallow depth of only eight kms, Phivolcs said.

Phivolcs is not expecting aftershocks or damage from the earthquake.

The Surigao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.
