The Philippine Blu Girls have secured a spot in the XVIII WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup set in July in Europe.

The spot to the prestigious event was clinched after the Filipinas wound up with a 5-3 record, good enough to make it to the top 4 of the Asia Cup in Incheon, South Korea and claim the four World Cup berths staked in this tournament.

Initially, there were only three World Cup seats staked in the meet but the sport’s international governing body recently gave a wild card seat to Asia, which paved the way for the extra ticket.

And this despite the Blu Girls 9-1 defeat to the top-seeded World No. 2 Japanese on Thursday, April 6.

The country will shoot for a bronze medal against either Chinese Taipei or China.

"I'm so proud of these girls, they really trained hard for this and has fought with all their heart each game,” said ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier.

“This is a huge accomplishment given that this is an All-Filipina team, the first in nine years. We at ASAPHIL will ensure that they get the preparations and exposure they need to be battle ready against the world's best in the World Cup in July,” he added.

"We are elated with securing the World Cup slot which was our target at the start of the tournament. But we will go for a podium finish and I believe the team can do it," said PH Blu Girls coach Randy Dizer.

A win for the Philippines will get it in the bracket with host Ireland, Australia, Botswana, Great Britain and the United States while a loss would send it in the group that is composed of Italy, Canada, New Zealand and Venezuela.
