A newly-formed low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao is being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said the weather disturbance was last seen 1,970 kilometers east of Mindanao outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR). Although still outside PAR, the LPA’s trough or extension is already affecting parts of Mindanao, particularly Davao Region,SOCCSKSARGEN, and BARMM.

“Itong LPA na ito ay nakikita natin na posibleng pumasok ng PAR. Hindi natin inaalis yung posibilidad, pero not in the next couple of days pa. Posibleng bandang weekend pa base sa ating datos (We are seeing the possibility that this LPA may enter PAR. We are not ruling out that possibility, but not in the next couple of days yet. It may enter PAR around the weekend based on our data),” said Badrina in a public weather forecast on Tuesday, April 4.

“Sa ngayon o at least in the next three days ay medyo maliit pa ang tiyansa na ito ay posibleng maging bagyo (Right now or at least in the next three days, there is still a small chance that this will possibly become a tropical cyclone),” Badrina added.

Earlier, the state weather bureau bared that zero to one tropical cyclone may enter and develop in the country’s area of responsibility in April.

Meanwhile, fair weather — or partly cloudy to cloudy skies will still prevail in Luzon, Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao. Isolated rains, especially in the afternoon or evening, may also occur due to localized thunderstorms.

Badrina said the LPA being monitored yesterday which was spotted east southeast of General Santos City has already dissipated.
