The completion of the P6.9 million road project in Dingle, Iloilo provides the farmers and local residents with easier access to the economic and consumer centers of the province, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

In a report to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno, DPWH Iloilo Second District Engineer Allan Rey Pajimna noted that the concrete road is a welcome boost to the public specifically to the farm folks and traders engaged in the transport of consumer products in the nearby markets.

The 1.23-kilometer paved road provides “a more reliable and secure transportation network’’ Dingle town, which stretches from Barangay Agsalanan to Barangay Potolan.

Pajimna revealed that the road project involves the construction of portland concrete cement pavement, extension of existing pipe culverts and road shoulder.

For her part Bueno added “with the new and improved road, local communities can expect better access to basic services as well as the needed boost in tourism and economic growth.”

The road project was funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Aside from the newly-paved road, Bueno stated that her office had finished the P49.2 million upgrade of a public market facility that will spur the trade and business industry in Guimbal, Iloilo.

She stressed that the renovated public market building is expected to significantly raise the growth and consumption of local agricultural enterprises that will boost the economic activity in the municipality.

“Built within an area of 768 square meters, the multi-purpose building houses numerous commercial stalls that will cater to the daily necessities and supply requirements of about 7,000 households in the town of Guimbal,’’ the DPWH said.

Located in Barangay Gerona-Lakandula, the two-storey building has better ventilation with lighting features, a viewing deck, roll-up doors and a larger selling area for stakeholders.

The improvement of the public market building was undertaken by DPWH Iloilo First District Engineering Office.
