Korea Entertainment Management Association rules in favor of ex-Loona’s Chuu on contract tampering

The Korea Entertainment Management Association (KEMA) has ruled in favor of former K-pop girl group Loona member Chuu regarding allegations by her former agency that she tampered with her exclusive contract in order to transfer to another agency.

Last December, BlockBerry Creative filed a petition with KEMA and the Korea Entertainment Producers' Association (KEPA) to ban Chuu from working in the Korean entertainment industry.

In March last year, Chuu partially won a lawsuit she filed seeking to void her exclusive contract with BlockBerry Creative.

Last November, BlockBerry Creative ousted Chuu from Loona, claiming that she committed abuse against a staff member.

BlockBerry Creative accused Chuu of signing a contract with BY4M and tampering with her contract with the agency.

In a decision issued on April 4, KEMA ruled in favor of Chuu and said that there was no evidence to support BlockBerry Creative’s claim about the tampering allegation.

“There is no evidence to support this,” it said, Korean media reported.

KEMA also said that “double contract claims cannot be judged. It is not something the committee can decide.”

“We have confirmed that By4M will not have any relationship with other members in the future, including exclusive contracts,” added KEMA.

In February, a mediation was held ahead of the civil lawsuit filed by Chuu against BlockBerry to confirm the non-existence of the exclusive contract but the two parties failed to reach an agreement.

In March, Loona’s  Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsoul and Cheorry signed exclusive contracts with Modhaus agency after they successfully suspended their contracts with BlockBerry through a court last January.
