Coconut vendor gunned down by TF Clearing member in Tanauan, Batangas


TANAUAN CITY, Batangas -- A coconut vendor allegedly making trouble in the public market in Poblacion 5 here was gunned down by a member of the city government’s Task Force Clearing on Monday morning, April 3, the Tanauan Police report said.

The Tanauan Police identified the victim as Vincent Rubio, 30, and a resident of Barangay Hidalgo, while the gunner was identified as Gregorio Legaspi, a resident of Brgy. Altura South.

Based on their initial investigation, the police found that the victim was under the influence of liquor and having a heated argument with his father.

In this instance, Legaspi intervened and tried to pacify the victim but the latter ignored it.

Legaspi left the scene and when he returned to the scene, Rubio suddenly pulled his bolo. The suspect readily drew a handgun and shot the victim several times, hitting in the different parts of the body, then fled carrying the firearm used.

The victim was rushed to C.P. Reyes Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Aldwin Alpha.

Recovered from the crime scene were five fired cartridges and two deformed bullets for caliber .9mm and a bolo.

Police conducted a manhunt operation for the arrest of the suspect.
