8 out of 10 Pasay City jail escapees recaptured

The Pasay City police have rearrested eight out of the 10 detainees who escaped from the Malibay detention facility on Monday, April 4.

Col. Froilan Uy, city police chief, said Carlo Magno Benavidez, 27 of Malibay, Pasay City and facing illegal possession of drugs was arrested at around 7:15 a.m.  along Medecion 2E, Imus Cavite.

Uy said Benavidez was arrested by members of the Station Investigation Detective Management Section SIDMS after his relatives coordinated and helped the police on his arrest.

The city police chief said another fugitive, Romeo Estopa, who is facing illegal possession of drugs, was arrested at around 6:45 a.m. in Mulawin St., Barangay 179, Maricaban, Pasay city.

Estopa was arrested by members of the Maricaban substation during a manhunt operation.

Uy said John Michael Cabe, 22,  who is facing carnapping charges was arrested by members of the anti-carnapping unit of Southern Police District (SPD).

Cabe was arrested at around 8:40 p.m. in front of the 7-11 convenience store located along Quirino Avenue, Barangay San Dionisio, Paranaque City.
 
The city police chief said manhunt operations against the two remaining fugitives , identified as Norman Deyta and Richard dela Cruz, both charged for  illegal possession of drugs, are ongoing.
 
Uy said the rearrested fugitives were Joey Hernandez, Eden Garcia, Tirzo Galit, Joshua Panganiban, Christian Salvatierra, John Michael Cabe, Romeo Estopa, and  Carlo Magno Benavidez.
 
He said the fugitives managed to break the iron bar of the facility then mauled the duty jailer Staff Sergeant Ariston Arid
and took his service firearm, cash, and jail keys.
 
The city police chief added that Malibay police sub-station commander Maj. Jerry Sunga and his deputy commander, Capt. Mamerto Gorne, were relieve from their posts.
 
Uy said there are about 35 male and two female detainees at the Malibay detention facility.  
 
He said they were transferred to different detention cells with more secure and better structures
