Efforts to transform Thailand as a processed food hub in the region are in full-swing, as the Southeast Asian nation’s food processing and packaging industry puts premium on innovation to meet modern manufacturing requirements.

Rungphech Chitanuwat, Informa Markets, regional portfolio director for ASEAN, said they focus on upgrading the food and beverage production and packaging industries through innovations to make Thailand a regional hub in Southeast Asia.

Thailand, with a population of almost 70 million, is Southeast Asia's second largest economy and is one of the few countries in the world that can produce far more food than it consumes.

Known as the "Kitchen of the World,” the country has 10,000 food processing companies and the world’s leading exporter of canned tuna, canned pineapple, sweet corn, coconut milk, cassava, and durian.

Food industry revenues of Thailand has accounted for more than 20 percent of its economy, or gross domestic product. For global specialty food ingredients market alone, it is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.3 percent from 2021 to 2026.

Under the government's "Thailand 4.0" strategy, high-tech food processing has been selected as one of the key industries the government wanted to promote.

To boost its effort, the Informa Markets Thailand, an international trade show business leader, has slated two major manufacturing events for this year—the ProPak Asia 2023 and Fi Asia 2023 (Food Ingredients Asia 2023).
