BI urges condo owners to report illegal activities of foreign tenants

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco has asked condominium owners to report any illegal activities being perpetrated by their foreign tenants.

The BI chief made the appeal after the Senate Committee on Women, Children, and Family Relations chaired by Senator Risa Hontiveros exposed that some  condo units in Metro Manila are centers of cryptocurrency scam operations.

Tansingco explained that law enforcement operatives have difficulty in going inside these dwelling units because they are private residences.

He reminded condo building owners that fighting trafficking is a shared responsibility of everyone, and they should report  unlawful activities.

He warned that uncooperative condo operators can be criminally charged with harboring illegal aliens, punishable under the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, and offenders could be sent to jail up to 10 years.
