PCG finds another possible casualty of Basilan ferry fire

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recovered Tuesday, April 11, another cadaver believed to be among the casualties in the deadly fire that hit MV Lady Mary Joy 3 last month.

PCG personnel and local disaster officials found the body of the still unidentified person floating in the vicinity waters off Barangay Sulutan Matangal in Hadji Mohammad Ajul, Basilan.

The PCG did not say if the fatality was a male or a female.

“The MDRRMO took over the cadaver for identification and proper disposition,” the PCG said on Wednesday, April 12.

“The authorities are also investigating if the said cadaver is the last missing passenger of MV Lady Mary Joy 3,” it added.

MV Lady Mary Joy 3 caught on fire while sailing off Baluk-Baluk Island in Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan last March 30.

There were 249 people onboard the ill-fated vessel. Of the number, 32 died, 216 were rescued, while another one remains missing.
