Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo Lumagui, Jr. says deadline for the payment and filing of 2022 annual income tax return (AITR) remains to be on April 17, 2023.
Lumagui says the BIR has implemented several programs that will make the lives of taxpayers during this tax filing season more convenient.
All Authorized Agent Banks are open on the two consecutive Saturdays of the tax filing season (March 25 and April 1) and they are also instructed to have an extended banking hours up to 5:00PM from April 1 to 17, 2023.
Lumagui says "there is no reason for non-compliance because the processes have been made simpler and more convenient."
BIR keeps April 17 deadline for tax returns
At a glance
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has no plan to extend the deadline for the filing of annual income tax return (AITR) due to its possible impact on funding programs of the government.
In a statement, BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. said deadline for the payment and filing of 2022 AITR remains to be on April 17, 2023, as stated under Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 32-2023.
“There will be no extension,” Lumagui said on Wednesday, April 12. “The deadline for filing and payment of our 2022 AITRs is on the 17th day of April 2023, Monday.”
Lumagui explained that any delay in the payment of taxes would impact funding of priority government programs.
Ahead of the deadline, Lumagui stated that the BIR already implemented several programs to ensure taxpayers’ convenience during the tax filing season this year.
For one, he said taxpayers can avail themselves of “File and Pay Anywhere’ set-up.”
The BIR earlier issued Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 32-2023, allowing taxpayers to file their 2022 AITR and pay the corresponding taxes due anywhere in the country on or before April 17, 2023, without penalties imposed for wrong venue filing.
BIR Tax Assistance Centers are also set-up nationwide to assist taxpayers to electronically file their AITRs.
Moreover, all Authorized Agent Banks have extended their banking hours until 5:00PM beginning April 1 until 17, and are open on the two consecutive Saturdays of the tax filing season (March 25 and April 1).
BIR webinars are likewise uploaded explaining how to accomplish tax returns.
“There is no reason for non-compliance because the processes have been made simpler and more convenient. There is also no reason for an extension because any delay in the filing and payment of taxes will result into inadequate funding of government programs.” Lumagui said.
“Let us aid our fellow Filipinos by honoring the April 17 deadline. Filing and payment beyond the set deadline will be grounds for charging taxpayers with corresponding interests, surcharges, and compromise penalties,” he warned.
