PPA cancels trips in 8 Bicol ports due to 'Amang'

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) suspended on Tuesday, April 11, the travel of all ships and ferries in eight ports in the Bicol region due to bad weather conditions spawned by tropical depression “Amang”.

In a statement, PPA spokesperson Eunice Samonte said the suspension of sea travel was based on the Tropical Cyclone Bulletin released by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Based on the PAGASA Bulletin, the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes at Sorsogon are under storm Signal number 1.

As such, Samonte said the suspension of sea travel in the affected areas is necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and crew of the ships and ferries.

The affected ports are Baseport in Legazpi City, Port of Tabaco, Port of Pio Duran, all in Albay; Port of Pasacao in Camarines Sur; Port of Virac and Port of San Andres in Catanduanes; and, Port of BUlan and Port of Matnog in Sorsogon.

“The PPA advises all passengers to coordinate with the shipping lines in connection with their travel and for other details about their travel,” said Samonte.

She also advised the passengers to continue monitoring the news and updates that are regularly posted in the PPA Facebook page.
