QC LGU sends financial help to fire victims


A total of 277 families who were victims of fire incidents in Barangays Tatalon and Dona Imelda in Quezon City received financial aid from the city government on Sunday, April 9.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Social Services Development Department (SSDD) Officer-in-Charge Rowena Macatao led the distribution of the financial help held at Jara Martinez High School and Betty Go Belmonte Elementary School.

The city government provided P10,000 to the owners of homes gutted during the fire incidents, while P5,000 were given to sharers or renters of the houses. 

The victims earlier received relief packs, hot meals, medical and psychological assistance from the city government.

Food packs for Barangay Tatalon fire victims were also sent by the Office of Quezon City District 4 Councilor Irene Belmonte. 

The fire that hit a residential area on G. Araneta Avenue, Barangay Tatalon on Friday, April 7, reached the second alarm and caused an estimated P100,000 damage to property, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) . It started in the bedroom on the second floor of a house in the area.

Four persons, including a 14-year-old girl, were reported injured during the incident.

Meanwhile, the fire incident on Kapiligan Street in Barangay Dona Imelda occured in the evening on the same day and was raised to first alarm. 

City Councilors Egay Yap and Raquel Malangen, and officials of the said barangays were present during the distribution of the financial help.

The local government said that it will continue to help the fire victims for their needs.
