Filipino astrophiles may witness two meteor shower events in April according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its Astronomical Diary, the state weather bureau bared that these two astronomical events are Lyrid and Pi Puppid meteor shower.
Lyrids will peak on April 23, but it can be observed beginning April 16 until April 25.
“The shower will produce the best display shortly before dawn, with up to 16 meteors per hour. The value mentioned assumes that the observer is in a clear, dark, moonless sky condition and that the radiant is highest in the sky,” said PAGASA.
Pi Puppids, on the other hand, will be active from April 15 until April 28, and it is expected to peak on April 24.
“[It] can be observed after sunset until the shower’s radiant sinks towards the horizon at around 10:10 p.m.,” the state weather bureau added.
Skywatchers were advised to choose a “dark observation site” that is away from the city lights. Meteor showers can be observed through the naked eye, even without gears.
