Registered voters in Barangay Muzon in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan agreed to divide the area into four separate villages, the Commision on Elections (Comelec) announced on Sunday, March 26.
A total of 13,322 voters out of the 43,771 registered voters in Barangay Muzon participated in the plebiscite held last Saturday, March 25, the Comelec said.
Of the 13,322 voters, the poll body said that 12,324 voted “yes” to split Barangay Muzon into four, while 969 people voted “no.”
“Given this clear mandate from the constituency of Barangay Muzon, considered as the most populous area in the City of San Jose Del Monte, the original barangay will henceforth be divided into four distinct and separate barangays, namely: Barangay Muzon Proper, Barangay Muzon East, Barangay Muzon West, and Barangay Muzon South,” the Comelec said.
“As explained by the author of Republic Act No. 11896, this division ‘is intimated on the vision of the local governance in improving the delivery of basic social services for the general welfare of the whole constituency of the City,”’ it added.
The poll body described the conduct of Barangay Muzon plebiscite as successful.
“The success of this Plebiscite marks another milestone in the active participation of the Filipino electorate in all electoral exercises, be they large in scale like nationwide automated elections, or smaller in scale like the manually conducted Plebiscites in barangays, municipalities, cities, or provinces. Once more, a very peaceful, orderly, honest, and credible electoral exercise,” it said.
