The best of Cainta’s native delicacies can now be bought in Las Piñas with “Bea’s” home of quality kakanin and other native delicacies.

The Las Piñas Tourism and Cultural Office, headed by Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Paul San Miguel, chose Bea’s home of quality kakanin and other native delicacies to represent the city in the “Flavors of NCR” food festival on April 27-28 at Kartilya ng Katipunan in Manila.

Catherine Laxamana Gavino was very happy when her business was chosen by San Miguel to be the city’s representative in the “Flavors of NCR,” which is an annual event of the Association of Tourism Officers in the National Capital Region (NCR) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism.

Gavino started as a reseller of “Aling Lourdes Kakanin” that was owned by her mother in Cainta, Rizal.

The kakanin producer said she started selling the best kakanin delicacies of her mother by offering it to public markets in Las Piñas.

Gavino said due to the demand of bulk orders for her products and the inability of her mother to supply her, she started making her own kakanin by following her mother’s recipe.

Though her mother did not tell her the secret recipe of her best kakanin, she was still able to cook delicious food, mostly by using her sense of smell.

The kakanin producer said she started making cassava cake, lecheflan, bibingka and sapin-sapin which were best-sellers to native delicacies lovers.

Gavino said her mother will be proud of her achievement especially that she will be representing the city in Flavors of NCR.
