3 men hurt in Pasig fire

Three men were reportedly hurt in a fire that burned over 40 homes in Sikap Compound Ismar in Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig City early Thursday morning, March 23.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the injured individuals as Artemio Egana Sr., 64; Dexter Egana, 22; and Roger Dacutanan, 47. 

Artemio sustained a burn on his forearm, while Dexter had an abrasion on his right leg. Dacutanan sustained a laceration on his lower right leg. 

The BFP raised the fire to the first alarm at 4:27 a.m. then to the second alarm at 4:35 a.m.

It escalated to the third alarm at 5:10 a.m.

The fire was put under control at 5:33 a.m. and declared fire out at around 5:37 a.m.

According to the BFP, the fire originated from the house owned by Salvacion Egana and family. 

Around 46 houses were burned during the fire that affected 50 families or 156 individuals. 

The families are temporarily staying at Kalawaan covered court. 

A team from the Philippine Red Cross Pasig-Pateros Branch (PRC-PBB) has given psychological first aid and wound treatments to the affected parties. 

The BFP estimated that the cost of damages is around P2,000,000.

The affected area involved houses made of light materials, said the BFP.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
