Legarda, the Italian ‘’Commendatore"

The Senate has given its consent to Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda to accept the rank of "Commendatore" to the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

This came after Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri sponsored Concurrent Resolution No. 6 granting consent to  Legarda to accept the Italian rank.

During the Senate plenary session yesterday, March 21, Zubiri said the award conferred to Legarda was a testament to the Italian Republic’s deep respect for the country.

“Senator Loren Legarda has long been one of our best ambassadors, constant in her efforts to put a spotlight on the wonders of our country and the excellence of our people,” the Senate Chief said.

The meaning of "Commendatore," according to Senator Risa  Hontiveros, refers to a member of an Italian honorary order of chivalry.

The deputy minority leader further said that the definition of chivalry fits Legarda because she has a “combination of qualities expected of an ideal knight including courage, honor, courtesy, justice and a readiness to help the weak"
