Valenzuela gov’t opens new Arkong Bato Park


The Valenzuela City government inaugurated the new Arkong Bato Park on M.H. Del Pilar Street in Barangay Arkong Bato in the city on Sunday, March 19.



Valenzuela City Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja attended the event along with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian, National  Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairman Emmanuel F. Calairo, and city councilors.



The 3,500 square meters park features a fountain, bike racks, and the monument of Kapitan Delfin Velilla, a war hero who joined the Kataastaasang Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan or KKK (a revolutionary group who fought against Spanish colonizers in the country) in 1896.  



The DSWD secretary said that the Arkong Bato Park part is one of the three liveable city projects that were not finished during his term as the city mayor. 



The two other projects include  the Pio Valenzuela Museum which symbolizes the city’s hero’s service to the people and was inaugurated in February 2023; and the Valenzuela City Acedemic Center, a facility that houses the city’s programs for education that opened in June 2022. 



He thanked the city government for inviting him to the inauguration of the park. 



The city government said the park is opendaily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.



It said that there will be be other recreational facilities like parks, a gym and basketball court that will be launched soon for the residents.
