The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) stated that it has completed the P49.2 million upgrade of a public market facility to support the trade and business industry in Guimbal, Iloilo.

DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno noted that the renovated public market building is expected to significantly raise the growth and consumption of local agricultural enterprises that will boost the economic activity in the municipality.

“Built within an area of 768 square meters, the multi-purpose building houses numerous commercial stalls that will cater to the daily necessities and supply requirements of about 7,000 households in the town of Guimbal,’’ the DPWH said.

Located in Barangay Gerona-Lakandula, the two-storey building has better ventilation with lighting features, a viewing deck, roll-up doors and a larger selling area for stakeholders.

The improvement of the public market building was undertaken by DPWH Iloilo 1st District Engineering Office.
