Fil-Am New Yorkers rally vs anti-Asian hate crimes

Filipino Americans gathered at Father Duffy Square Park, Times Square in New York City (NYC) on Friday, March 17, to denounce anti-Asian hate crimes.

According to Chris Labaco, one of the rallyists, the Fil-Am victims were joined by members of the Asian Community in urging the other victims not to hesitate to report violent incidents.

The rally was themed "Always With Us: Asian American Rise Against Hate."

He said at least 80 people came together held to condemn the increasing number of attacks on Asian Americans.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the number of Asian victims continues to rise.

Meanwhile, Philippine General Senen Mangalile met with members of the Philadelphia Mayor's Commission on Asia Pacific American Affairs (MCAPAA) headed by John Chin on Thursday, March 16, at the Crane Center, NYC.

Mangalile encouraged the victims to immediately file reports of violent attacks to authorities.

The meeting also sought to establish the Asian American cultural district.

The participants also discussed the potential roundtable meetings between business sector representatives of Philadelphia and the Philippines.

MCAPAA is composed of 25 professionals and community leaders whose roles include advising the mayor on issues and policies that are important to Asian communities.
