The 23-year-old Tokyo Olympian delivered jaw-dropping performances on his two vaults – a masterful handspring double front pike and a Lopez – to post a 14.933 average for the top honors.

He edged Great Britain’s Harry Hepworth, who scored 14.816 for the silver and Hong Kong’s Shek Wai-hung, who registered 14.716 for the bronze.

It was Yulo’s most successful campaign so far in the four-leg series after edging heavy favorite Illia Kovtun of Ukraine for the parallel bars gold medal on Saturday, March 11.

He, however, fell short on rings by placing seventh.

Still, it was a far better performance compared to the first two legs.

He won bronze in parallel bars in the first leg in Cottbus, Germany two weeks ago but improved in the second leg in Doha, Qatar by reaping the floor exercise gold, the parallel bars silver and the vault bronze.

The series takes over a month-long respite before resuming the last leg in Cairo, Egypt on April 27 to 30.

Yulo seeks more gold medals in the final leg this time to boost his preparations for the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium in September where berths are at stake for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
