Teen hotshot Yhuan debuts with song he wrote, recorded in two days

18-year old singer-songwriter Yhuan signs under Widescope Entertainment which dropped his debut single 'Gold' on digital stores today, Feb. 24. 

An eighteen-year-old singer-songwriter should not be rushing to get things done. For one, he has all the time to spare in producing a composition, especially if it is one that will introduce what he has to offer as a recording artist.

Yet, Yhuan, a music technology major from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), counts on momentum when crafting a song, and chooses not to let go until a song is finished.

Thus, his debut single "Gold" only needed two days from the time of its birth up to the final product.

Widescope Entertainment, which discovered Yhuan's talent and signed him, drops "Gold" on digital stores today, February 24.

"I started piecing together a story about someone feeling down but then thrilled when he suddenly saw this person who ended up giving him great luck," expressed the young fellow from the province of Bulacan about the song he wrote, recorded, and mixed in a total of just 48 hours.

Yhuan sings and plays synths on the track executive produced by Widescope's Vic de Vera and supervised by the label's entertainment director Neil Gregorio. The tandem of the iconic Ebe Dancel and Dante Tanedo, on the other hand, shared their A&R and mixing and mastering expertise, respectively.

The track's groovy, swingy feel with a touch of hip hop is delivered through the chorus words, "Who on Earth gives a damn about gold?/ Oh if love's much brighter than diamond and it never gets old/ Girl you're worth everything that I own/ I don't mind it if I bet it all and lose/
Cus Darling I got you."

Baby-faced Yhuan pointed out that the persons in the song "realized that even if they lose it all, they (are) enjoying the company of each other more than anything," more than gold.

For his musical influences, the young dude with a pleasing personality namechecked Ed Sheeran, Porter Robinson, and Jon Bellion. He noted that he wrote "Gold" by way of a "songwriting exercise we had with my friends from the Philpop Digicamp and the given theme is gold and dance-related."

He added, "I also looked for gambling terms to fit the theme of gold and related it to money, possessions, and love."

Whether or not Yhuan struck gold with his debut piece remains to be seen. But this boy is born-ready. He's laying it down at 18 for he believes that now is the time and he doesn't have to wait until he reaches a certain age. He's young, dynamic, and daring. Right in the song's opening frame he already made himself clear, singing, "Cards shown, and I'm betting it all, there's no way I'm going back right now."
