CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – Fifty members of the Communist Terrorist Group have surrendered to the government, with the latest addition being a 30-year-old man in the province of Abra who voluntarily surrendered to the Police Regional Office-Cordillera, La Trinidad, Benguet, on August 1.
Brigadier Gen Ronald Oliver Lee, regional director, said Alyas Ka Berto also voluntarily surrendered his Cal. 45 pistol with seven live bullets.
According to Lee, Ka Berto voluntarily surrendered after a series of negotiations initiated by the joint operatives of PROCOR and AFP with the help of barangay officials and his family.
The former CTG was a member of Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (KLG) North Abra operating in the provinces of Abra and Apayao.
Lee immediately provided financial assistance to the former rebel who is now in the custody of the PROCOR Regional Intelligence Division (RID) for the corresponding documentation and debriefing.
Data showed that from January to August 1, a total of 10 rebels surrendered from Abra; 20 in Apayao; 9 in Mt. Province; 8 in Benguet and one each in Ifugao, Kalinga and Baguio City.
A total of seven rebels were arrested, two were captured and one was killed in the encounter, while 19 firearms were recovered.
In 2021, 227 rebels surrendered, one was captured, five were killed and 81 firearms were recovered.
