Mapua launches School of Medicine with Arizona State U


Mapua University, one of the Yuchengco-Ayala schools education partnership through iPeople, has launched the Mapua School of Medicine (SOM) in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU).

In a statement, Mapua noted that ASU is the top school in the United States for innovation for the tenth straight year ranked by US News and World Report 2016-2025.

“Mapua SOM aims to provide cutting-edge healthcare education that equips future medical professionals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to improve health outcomes, positively impact society, and excel in the rapidly evolving 21st century healthcare landscape,” the university said.

It added that, SOM is shaping the future of healthcare through an innovative, learner-centered approach to medical education. 

Its unique and innovative curriculum integrates digital tools, global best practices, interprofessional education, advanced simulation, and a broad range of active, authentic learning methodologies. 

“Live anatomy” replaces traditional cadavers with the most modern suite of immersive tools in the country, including synthetic cadavers, virtual dissection, augmented and virtual reality, ultrasound simulation, body painting, and body projection.

Reaffirming its fundamental commitment to service and nation-building, Mapúa SOM aims to educate a new generation of healthcare professionals who are technically competent and also caring, compassionate, and socially responsible.

Mapúa SOM said it is pushing traditional boundaries and redefining standards of excellence with the goal of producing practice-ready physicians equipped with the skills to excel anywhere in the world in the rapidly evolving landscape of 21st century healthcare.

The Mapúa SOM is committed to producing well-rounded, globally competent, and digitally proficient medical professionals who can collaborate across disciplines and address both clinical aspects and the social determinants of healthcare. 

Through the collaboration with ASU, Mapúa SOM students can enjoy enhanced opportunities for interprofessional training and global exposure. 

Mapúa students will be able to engage with faculty and peers from ASU and ASU-Cintana Alliance affiliated universities, as well as internships, exchange programs, and international collaborative research projects.

Mapua’s Medicine Program is grounded on features including Global Mastery through a curriculum aligned with international standards, international exchange and internship opportunities, and collaborations with foreign universities and institutions; 

Digital Readiness by the integration of advanced digital technologies in education; Inter-professional Training through interdisciplinary courses, projects, and joint training across healthcare disciplines; and

Clinical Simulation with state-of-the-art digital simulation labs that recreate various healthcare scenarios to improve clinical competencies at the hospital, emergency, outpatient, or community health level.

De Los Santos Medical Center (DLSMC) in Quezon City serves as the university’s official base hospital. It provides essential clinical training, state-of-the-art facilities, mentorship, and research.
