NDRRMC: Agriculture, infrastructure damage due to Mindanao quake reaches P170M


Agriculture and infrastructure losses as a result of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Mindanao on Dec. 2, reached around P170 million so far, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday, Dec, 8.

Citing data from the field, the NDRRMC said over P15 million damage in agriculture was reported in Caraga and nearby regions with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) also reported that around P14.5 million worth of agriculture infrastructure were damaged in Caraga region alone.

A total of 576 roads, bridges and other public infrastructures were also reported by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), a total of 364 of them, worth more than P134, were reported in Caraga region while the rest was in Davao Region.

The tremor affected 162,946 families composed of 643,220 persons while the NDRRMC is now validating the reported three deaths and the reported 65 people suffering from various injuries as a result of the quake.

A total of 4,888 houses were either partially or totally damaged while 19 communication lines were also affected, all in Caraga, Davao and Northern Mindanao regions.

The NDRRMC said the quake, with its epicenter traced in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, triggered three structural fires and a landslide.
