Senior citizen strangled to death

BACOLOD CITY – A senior citizen was strangled to death inside her house in Barangay Camandag, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Saturday, December 2.

Police withheld the name of the 68-year-old victim.

Police Major Nelson Amsiwen Jr., La Castellana police chief, said the victim’s grandson found his grandmother lifeless in the bedroom with markings in the neck.

Police saw a plastic straw tied around the victim’s neck.

Amsiwen said the victim and her son were the only ones at home prior to the incident. The son would reportedly usually act violent as he was allegedly mentally ill.

However, he said they don’t have witnesses who can positively identify the son as the suspect.

Amsiwen said the victim’s son was brought to the police station and was later released and referred to the barangay.

He said the barangay will assist the family in dealing with the situation of the victim’s son.
