With less than two weeks before the traslacion procession of the revered Poong Hesus Nazareno, Meralco responded to the request of the Manila local government unit to conduct wire-clearing operations along the route of the Black Nazarene procession to ensure the safety of the devotees.

In cooperation with the Manila City government and telecommunications and cable companies, the power firm recently conducted its Anti-Dangling and Unauthorized Wire Attachment Operation in Quiapo, Manila to help ensure the safety of the expected large crowds of devotees who will, once again, take part in the procession three years after the pandemic.

Last year, the Quiapo Church held a Walk of Faith which was attended by thousands of the faithful.

During the recent wire clearing operations or Operation Urban Blight, Meralco crews and engineers removed idle wires and checked the integrity of poles along the route of the procession to ensure public safety.

Meralco noted that foreign attachments have been identified as one of the most common causes of pole problems. The distribution utility has been appealing to cable and telco companies to coordinate with the power firm and follow the process for wire attachment applications.

Organizers have likewise conducted a walkthrough of the route of the traslacion and have called on Black Nazarene devotees to prepare for Nazareno 2024 to help ensure an orderly, peaceful and safe procession.
