“Fake news.”

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) denied that President Marcos had issued a proclamation declaring a “special (half-working) day” on Friday, Dec. 22, throughout the country.

Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil said this after a copy of a document labeled “Proclamation No. 427” claiming such a declaration circulated online on Thursday morning, Dec. 21.

The fake document stated that the “half-working day” was declared in response to the expected heavy traffic throughout the country due to people traveling for the Christmas long weekend. The move would supposedly allow people to travel earlier and avoid the traffic.

The document seemed to cover government workers as it “ordered” the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to issue the necessary circular to give the same opportunity to the private sector.

It was likewise signed on behalf of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Meanwhile, the legitimate Proclamation No. 427 uploaded to the Official Gazette website was about the declaration of nine individuals as “Manlilikha ng Bayan” for 2023.
