Ex-OFW nabbed after claiming over P55-M worth of shabu during Cavite delivery bust


Government anti-narcotics operatives arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 19, a former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) for claiming around P55.2 million worth of imported shabu during a controlled delivery operation in Trece Martires, Cavite.

In a report, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Pampanga Provincial Office said that Michael Florendo, 36, was nabbed at around 8 p.m. in Barangay Hugo Perez.

The operating teams said that the package containing shabu arrived at the Port of Clark on Dec. 17. 

"The parcels containing the illegal drugs emanated from Long Beach, California, USA, and was consigned to Florendo. The discovery of the illicit items prompted us in launching a controlled delivery operation ", the PDEA Pampanga Provincial Office team leader said.

The recovered illegal drugs will be forwarded to PDEA-3 Laboratory Section for forensic examination with Florendo being temporarily detained at the PDEA-3 Jail facility in City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

“A non-bailable offense of Section 4 (importation of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165 will be filed against Florendo,’’ PDEA noted.

The operation was carried out by the PDEA Pampanga Provincial Office (PO), PDEA Clark Airport Interdiction Unit (AIU), PDEA International Cooperation and and Foreign affairs service (ICFAS), Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Clark, PDEA Cavite PO and the local police.
