Explore 50 years of transformative Philippine design: From evolution to innovation

The exhibition brings together partner agencies and valued stakeholders from the Philippine Creative Industries

"The objective of design is to identify human needs, and to fulfill those needs with the right products," Arturo Luz, National Artist.

In commemoration of the 50th founding anniversary of the Philippine Design and Beyond Exhibition, this event celebrates the rich tapestry of Philippine Design spanning half a century. It showcases the evolution, innovation, and socio-economic significance of design in our nation.

The exhibition, found at the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila City, brings together partner agencies and valued stakeholders from the Philippine Creative Industries, all contributing to shaping our design landscape and the milestones and leaps of the past five decades.

Fueled by the transformative power of design, the exhibition serves as an opportunity to inform and inspire the next generation of Filipino design leaders, movers, and shakers. It aims to guide them on collectively elevating the Filipino Brand, strengthening its reputation as a global leader in design and innovation, and driving the development of industries effectively and sustainably to further the growth of the Philippine economy.

The Design Center of the Philippines was established in 1973 through Presidential Decree 279 under the leadership of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. Its mandate was to develop, enhance, and promote the design of Philippine-manufactured handicrafts.

The Design Center's projects, services, and activities were directed towards two specific goals: promoting design awareness and creating new product designs. These objectives shaped its institutional career, which began with modest purpose and means that could not have foretold its impact on the nascent field of industrial design.

"Fifty Years of Philippine Design and Beyond" debuts at the National Museum on December 13, 2023, tracing the dynamic evolution of Filipino design over the past five decades.
