“We won because we have big, passionate, and generous hearts and unselfishness, and we did not build a startup to be famous but to serve our community, bless and touch people's lives through films, and help solve the film distribution problems in the film industry,” EdukSine's CEO and Founder Karen Jane Salutan said in a DOST statement.

EdukSine is a leading technology company in the Philippines dedicated to revolutionizing film distribution and cultural preservation.

It is the only hybrid streaming platform for all Filipino independent films created to bridge the gaps from democratizing people’s access to indie films to transforming the educational and cultural landscape.

DOST highlighted that EdukSine’s devotion "to bring indie films closer to Filipinos has innovated the community of filmmakers."

"It (Eduksine) has become the voice of the voiceless and the power of the powerless," DOST added.

The production streams indie films about education, gender and development, HIV and sex education, women empowerment, history, martial law, romance, and LGBT rights, among others, through online, face-to-face, and hybrid block screenings.

“Good films can build a great nation,” it said.

DOST believes that socially relevant films can encourage people to reflect, empower the powerless, foster critical thinking, amplify the voices of the marginalized, promote ethical values, and instill patriotism, among others.

Thus, supporting indie films would help achieve excellence for the country.

The Asia CEO Awards is the largest business awards event in the Philippines and is considered the largest event of its kind in Southeast Asia to promote the Philippines as the premier business destination for global enterprises.

For their 14th year, the awarding was held last Oct. 28 at the Manila Marriott Hotel.

Furthermore, EdukSine also celebrated their remarkable achievement with the DOST, who provided them grants under the Women-Helping Women: Innovating Social Enterprise (WHWise).

This led to the development of the EdukSine application and streaming website, which enabled the company to reach more Filipinos across the globe.
