Cainta kicks off Sumbingtik Fiesta 2023 celebration


Residents of Cainta, Rizal are on a festive mood this week as the town celebrates the annual event locally known as “Sumbingtik Fiesta".

“Sumbingtik” is an acronym for suman, bibingka, and latik, three of the native delicacies that are made mostly in Barangay Sto. Nino, Cainta.

Every year, the town government is sponsoring a house decoration contest wherein residents of Barangay Sto. Nińo decorate the façade of their houses with materials that are used in making the delicacies such as coconut, coconut husks, suman wrapper or leaves, and other things.

Visitors can buy some of these native delicacies in some stores located in Barangay Sto. Nińo.

The office of Mayor Elen Nieto said on Monday, Nov. 27, a grand float parade will be held. The local government employees and officials will join the activity at 4 p.m. onwards.

Traffic rerouting will be implemented as some of the roads leading to the municipal hall will be closed on certain days and hours.

November 30 is the feast day of Saint Andrew the Apostle, the first patron saint of the town while December 1 is observed as the feast day of the Our Lady of Light or the "Inang Santisima ng Kaliwanagan".
