6 family members die, 2 hurt in Quezon fire

CANDELARIA, Quezon - Six members of a family died and two others were injured when a one-hour fire gutted their house at dawn on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Kalye Ramos, Barangay Masalukot 1, this town.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the fatalities as Delia Cruzat, 69, grandmother; Darline Joy Quirrez, college student, 21, and her siblings Princess Joy, 16, student; Kylie Joy, 9, Grade 4 student; Tristan Jino, 10, Grade 5 student; and Crissa Joy, 18, college student, 18.

Injured were Vangie Quirrez, 48, mother, and Edna Cruzat, 37, cousin. They were taken to the hospital, according to the report.

According to witness Anicia Corales, she saw their cousins trapped inside the house screaming and shouting for help at around 1 a.m.

Candelaria fire brigade responded and put out the blaze at around 2:30 a.m.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, according to the BFP.
