PhilHealth expands annual hemodialysis coverage

In a significant development, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced on Wednesday, Nov. 22, that it will now provide coverage for 156 hemodialysis sessions per year.

It said the coverage expansion is specifically aimed at patients with stage five chronic kidney disease as identified in the PhilHealth dialysis database.

To be eligible for this extended benefit, PhilHealth said individuals must be recommended to begin dialysis by a licensed doctor.

The expansion of hemodialysis coverage is expected to significantly alleviate the financial burden on patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment, PhilHealth said.
