In numerology, the number seven or seven years is significant for growth and positive energy. For designer Robbie Santos, his seventh anniversary in the industry is a celebration of beauty and art.
Robbie finished fashion design at the Istituto Marangoni in Paris, subsequently taking courses at Central Saint Martins and the London School of Fashion. In a fashion show titled “Devenir,” which means “to become,” Robbie, the mind behind the fashion brand Septième Rebelle, marked his seventh anniversary as a designer. This 84-look collection was his take on self-actualization through fashion that can be worn from day to night and can easily transition from casual chic to resort wear or even corporate couture to extravagant, evening elegance.
With beadwork, zig-zag elements, and embroidered details, each piece in the collection was designed to allow the wearer to have freedom and to experiment with self-expression through clothing.
In addition to his exquisite yet versatile approach, Robbie also sought inspiration from his interest in World War 2 documentaries, as manifested through this collection's unique cuts of trousers.
“When you look at these pants from behind, they present an illusion of hobbling instead of walking. They were created to mimic someone losing their legs as a casualty of war,” he said. “This sense of being ‘handicapped’ easily translates to us humans having our own set of disabilities. But no matter how incapacitated we may feel, we always have the choice to think, feel, and become beautiful—or Devenir Belle.”
With his signature asymmetric cuts and ingenious techniques, this collection allowed the skin to show without going over the top. Some materials and fabrics were sourced from different parts of the globe.
