PAGASA, KOICA new partnership to reinforce disaster resilience in PH


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) signed an agreement on Tuesday, Nov. 21 to reinforce disaster resilience in the country.

The agencies announced their collaboration during the Record of Discussions (RODs) of the "Development of Flood Forecasting and Early Warning System for the Greater Metro Manila and Surrounding Provinces of Laguna Lake Complex for Disaster Mitigation (EWS4) Project."

PAGASA said the EWS4 Project is the 5th official development assistance (ODA) project that was collaboratively pushed through by the two agencies.

"The previous three phases of the EWS and the COMS Satellite Data Analysis System Project have proven successful in providing disaster warnings and weather forecasts to Filipinos," PAGASA said.

The signing ceremony was led by KOICA Philippines Office Country Director Kim Eunsub and Department of Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. at the PAGASA Central Office in Quezon City.

DOST Assistant Secretary Rodolfo Calzado Jr. and other officials led by PAGASA Officer-In-Charge Nathaniel T. Servando, as well as representatives of the KOICA Philippines Office including Mr. Kim Sanggeun, Assistant Country Director and Program Manager Mr. Francis Afable, attended the signing ceremony.
