Former president Rodrigo Duterte has said that he rather go to jail than respond to his subpoena from the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.

To this, Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas said: Nobody will stop you.

The militant lawmaker gave this quip in a recent press conference as she expressed equal parts frustration and amazement over Duterte’s reaction to the prosecutor's summon.

"Kasi ang sinasabi na niya agad he would rather go to jail eh. Actually wala namang pipigil sa kanya, pero mas gugustuhin natin na humarap siya," Brosas said.

(His immediate comment was he would rather go to jail. Actually nobody will stop him, but we would rather that he makes an appearance.)

"Kasi napakalinaw nung threats at harassment na binitawan niya laban kay [ACT Teachers Party-list] Representative France Castro," added the House assistant minority leader.

(Because the threats and harassment he hurled at ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro weee very clear.)

Castro had earlier filed a grave threats charge against the 78-year-old Duterte. This, after the latter--known for his tough man persona--allegedly threatened to kill her in a television interview.

In his most recent television interview, Duterte accused Castro of "oppressing" him. The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) further said that he "would rather go to jail" than respond to the summon.

The Quezon City Prosecutor's Office has set the preliminary investigation (PI) on the grave threat case on Dec. 4 and 11.

Referring to Duterte, Brosas said: "Dapat maging accountable siya at harapin niya ang kaso laban sa kanya...Again wala na siyang immunity."

(He should be accountable and face the charge against him...Again, he has no more immunity.)

Brosas and Castro both belong to the militant Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives.
