Three policemen assigned to Rodriguez, Rizal were arrested by their colleagues for alleged extortion.

Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director Col. Felipe Maraggun identified the policemen as Senior Master Sergeant Jose Reyes; Corporal Ramel Delorino; and Staff Sergeant Glenn Libres.

The PPO’s public information officer, Capt. Mariesol Tactaquin, told the Manila Bulletin that Col. Maraggun had also placed Rodriguez Police Station’s chief of police, Lt. Col. Arnulfo Selencio under preventive relief pending the result of the investigation.

Information from the Rizal PPO showed that the three policemen were arrested by members of the Philippine National Police Integrity and Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), accompanied by the Rodriguez Police personnel, at the residence of the complainant.

The PPO’s Public Information Office said the arrest stemmed from the complaint of the victim that he was reportedly being illegally arrested and detained by the policemen on Nov. 14 after they failed to arrest the victim’s live-in-partner who was reportedly the subject of a warrant of arrest for violation of the Anti-Bouncing Check Law (Batas Pambansa No. 22).

The victim said the three policemen brought him to the service vehicle, allegedly beat him up, and threatened that he would be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

The policemen also reportedly demanded P100,000 from the victim in exchange for not serving the warrant of arrest against the complainant’s live-in-partner.

On Nov. 14, the PNP operatives arrested the three policemen when they returned to the victim’s house to collect the money.

Aside from robbery extortion, the three policemen are also  facing charges for illegal detention and trespass to dwelling.
