The closeness between Speaker Martin Romualdez and President Marcos was apparent in the advance birthday greeting the latter gave the former during House plenary Monday afternoon, Nov. 13. 

Marcos wished the birthday celebrant well, commended him for the fine job he has done as Speaker, and even cracked a joke. 

Romualdez's actual birthday is on Tuesday,, Nov. 14. He is turning 60 years old. 

Marcos' birthday greeting took the form of a 90-second video message, which was played during plenary session. Some of the House members broke into applause when the saw the Chief Executive's face on the big screen. 

According to Marcos, the tireless commitment to public service and exceptional leadership of his cousin, the Speaker has guided the nation towards progress and unity.  

Romualdez, he said.  played a pivotal role in shaping policies and legislation that have positively impacted the Filipino people.  

“Thank you for all the good work that you have done in leading the House of Representatives and a very important one that the House of Representatives under your leadership has played in our effort of nation-building,” Marcos said. 

The President also said tongue-in-cheek that, since Romualdez have a birthday party, it will be once again difficult "to keep [off] the weight". 

“It is our turn to provide you with the treats on your birthday. Happy birthday Martin,” Marcos said. 

“Let’s hope to keep that working relationship strong and vibrant. I look forward to the years to come where we can do even more good work together,” the President said. 

Romualdez is arguably Marcos' top ally in the entire legislature.
