Top rookie Stephen Holt shrugs off cold-shooting debut

Just a bad shooting night that coincidentally happened right on his PBA debut.
Top rookie pick and Terrafirma guard Stephen Holt was hardly worried by the so-so performance in his first game and remained confident that his shots will eventually fall as the season progresses.
Holt visibly struggled on the offensive end with a measly 2-of-9 shooting from the field including a 0-of-5 clip from deep to finish with 11 points in the Dyip’s 108-103 loss to the NorthPort Batang Pier.
“I’m known as a shooter. I've put in the work my whole career. Again, being a pro is making an adjustment. My shot is not falling I just gonna shoot it and find ways to help the team out. I thought defensively I played pretty well,” said the 31-year-old newcomer
Holt did try to make up for his lackluster shooting by contributing in other areas, scattering six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
“I just wanted to do a little bit of everything: get steals, rebounds and assists, be aggressive and get to the free throw line, those eight times. Tonight my shot didn’t fall, 0-of-5 from three, thought I had some good looks,” said Holt.
The 6-foot-4 rookie, who had stints in the NBA D-League, Europe and Australia, was well aware that a lot is expected from him and he got to deliver the next time to help alleviate the pressure from Dyip star Juami Tiongson.
“I know the spotlight is on me. Obviously being the first pick and the expectations that are put on our group, I’m still gonna embrace that. It’s just one loss. I thought I had a pretty good pre-season. I got better every single game and had some high scoring games,” he shared.
Holt is also not worried about the opening game loss although he stressed that the team must work on the negatives and pick up the positives from the loss.
“There were some positives about us as a group. Obviously most are negatives so we just got to watch the film and assess our game plan again and just keep working. It’s a long season and the only thing we can do now is not put our heads down and keep going,” he added.
