The volume of illegal drugs confiscated in the past 10 months this year was fewer compared to the same period last year, said Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of PRO-7 chief Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin.

The quantity of illegal drugs seized this year does not mean that the campaign against the menace in Central Visayas has relented, said Pelare.

“Our operations against illegal drugs have been unrelenting. We have not stopped arresting those involved in illegal drugs because this is the specific instruction of our regional director that the units on the ground should focus on the fight against illegal drugs,” said Pelare.

Pelare said that in the first 10 months this year, 5,449 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted wherein 100,707.03 grams of shabu were confiscated and 6,630 drug suspects arrested.

Seized illegal drugs had an estimated amount of P684 million and while the amount went down by 32 percent, the number of arrested drug suspects increased by eight percent, he said.

In the same period last year, 4,731 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted and 165,582 grams of shabu were seized and 6,119 drug suspects were arrested.

Pelare said the supply of illegal drugs being brought into the region is scarce due to the intensified monitoring of the police. Most of the illegal drugs arriving in the region come from Luzon, Pelare said.
