The fund will be used as crop insurance for rice fields that are not irrigated.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration has forecast a moderate to strong El Niño by December this year.

The P30-million fund is the assistance that Gov. Aris Aumentado committed to mitigate the effects of the dry spell and protect the welfare of farmers and fisherfolk.

To ensure an adequate supply in vegetable farms during the dry spell, cash assistance will be given to various farmers organizations for the acquisition of pumping units.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) will coordinate with various government agencies, including the National Irrigation Administration, to identify farmer-beneficiaries who will also receive assistance from the provincial government.

Provincial legal officer Handel Lagunay, acting provincial administrator, said cloud-seeding operations have already been prepared and bidded out.
